Location of Herefordshire Holiday Cottage for let in Preston-on-Wye near Hay-on-Wye
Hacton Cruck is situated on the edge of the small village of Preston-on-Wye midway between Hereford and Hay-on-Wye. The only immediate neighbour is the housekeeper, Dilys, and her family. The Yew Tree Inn is a ten minute walk otherwise the village is unserviced, basic groceries and post office facilities are four miles away. A ten to fifteen minute drive brings you to Oakchurch, a very good farm shop, both in terms of quality and range, which would keep you well provided for, and out of town if you so wished.
The house itself sits on a site of three acres of pastureland and old orchard; sheep graze the land. Being amongst old trees and big hedges means birds and wildlife are abundant. Birds to look out for are tree creepers, nuthatch and green and great spotted woodpeckers; badgers are numerous with a large sett a few hundred yards away, foxes visit. Grass, flower and weed species are more diverse than modern grassland.
"Fantastic being able to watch all the wild life from the window"
